It’s name is “Sight”. The Scott air pack company’s new thermal imaging camera.
The camera is built into the SCBA mask. The viewing lens sits below your right eye, with the power component attached to the outside of the mask.
Our question for the rep was; “Will it see through the plastic of a hazmat suit?” He didn’t know but will check. With the handheld units you run the risk of contaminating it on a hazmat incident.
The camera weighs a mere 8 1/2 ounces. And the powering mechanism is AAA batteries.
Once the Sight gets in firefighter’s hands we will see how it works in the field. Anything that improves the safety for firefighters must be considered.
Great job Scott!
